Welcome to Trinity Health Oakland Graduate Medical Education. Medical education is a central part of the overall mission of Trinity Health Oakland and a pillar of the hospital, supporting our outstanding patient care and research and our commitment to our community.

We are a nationally recognized teaching hospital with a long history of dedication to medical education. Trinity Health Oakland is a "top teaching hospital," a designation awarded by the Leap Frog Group in 2019. Training outstanding physicians for over 70 years, medical education is central to Trinity Health Oakland's mission as it supports outstanding patient care, clinical research, and a strong commitment to our community. Trinity Health Oakland sponsors Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited graduate medical education programs in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Transitional Year and Cardiology (Fellowship), as well as a Dental Residency accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and a Pharmacy Residency accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. There are 113 house officers at Trinity Health Oakland as well as residents from Wayne State University School of Medicine and other academic centers. We are active and engaged members of the Southeast Michigan Medical Education Consortium and the Association for Hospital Medical Education.

Trinity Health Oakland is a 497-bed acute care hospital located in northern Oakland County, Michigan. As a member of Trinity Health System, Trinity Health Oakland is one of seven hospitals in Michigan and one of 93 Trinity Health hospitals in the United States. Trinity Health is the second-largest Catholic health system in the country. Our residents benefit from our affiliation with other Trinity hospitals in the region, as well as from membership in the larger health care corporation, Mercy Health Services, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy.

Trinity Health Oakland is a community teaching hospital with a strong orientation to private group practice. We are committed to high academic standards and offer a large volume and variety of clinical cases, with a private practice environment that provides an ideal setting for anyone considering private group practice as a career goal. Trinity Health Oakland utilizes Epic EHR software system. The hospital has a formidable employed medical group of over 700 providers and over 100 locations within Southeast Michigan known as IHA.

Our patient population is diverse and includes a range of socioeconomic strata, insured and uninsured, and demographic variables represented in the city of Pontiac and in the surrounding communities in Oakland County, Michigan. Our Resident Council and resident representatives on Trinity Health Oakland hospital committees are actively engaged in ensuring that our residents' voices are heard and that our house staff is included in hospital decisions.
