Serving Michigan

Transitional Year

Trinity Health Michigan (THMI) offers up to twelve Transitional first-year positions for physicians who plan to enter a specialty that requires a broad-based, clinical first graduate year or for those physicians who are unsure of their future medical goals. The Transitional Program's national reputation attracts highly qualified applicants from across the country. Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program and applications are accepted only through ERAS - Electronic Residency Application Service.

The major sponsor of the Transitional Program is the Department of Internal Medicine with additional support from the Department of General Surgery.

The Transitional Year Program at SJMH is well known for training exceptional residents for future residencies in highly competitive fields such as Radiology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Radiation Oncology and Preventative Medicine. Program Directors and graduates recommend our program for internship training and often graduates return to THMI to embark on their attending career. The internship is a seminal point in a medical career and we are proud to participate in the development of the future specialists who will practice in local, national and international medical centers.
