Vanessa Haizel, MD

Vanessa Haizel, MD - Class of 2027

Email: Vanessa.Haizel@trinity-health.org

Vanessa was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, and is pursuing her childhood dream of becoming an Obstetrician Gynecologist. Vanessa completed medical school at the University of Cape-Coast School of Medical Sciences, winning awards such as the Best Graduating Female Student. Now, as an OBGYN Resident, she is excited to expand upon her passion for medicine.

Before THAA, Vanessa worked as a Post-Doctoral Associate at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During her time there at the Academic Research Center for Hematology (ARCH), she led a number of research projects aimed at improving the standard and quality of care for patients with Sickle-Cell Disease. Much of this work built upon the learnings of prior research she conducted while volunteering with the University of Michigan.

Vanessa also worked as a Generalist Physician at The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), the 37 Military Hospital, and the Police Hospital in Ghana. In these roles, she often served as the central contact for emergency patient-care across the spectrum of medicine. As a GP, Vanessa’s advocacy for marginalized patient populations and her dedication to provide patient-centered care in limited resource settings granted her numerous opportunities to influence hospital operating practices. As a resident, Vanessa is excited to push the boundaries of her medical knowledge and hone her patient care skills. She hopes to be a conduit of both knowledge and technology, with the goal of creating accessible women’s health training in Ghana and underserved communities. Dr. Haizel’s commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care, drive her desire to contribute to the well-being of all patients she can reach.

Vanessa is a dog mum to four adorable pups. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures and cuisines, and creating all forms of visual art. She is particularly interested in interior design and landscaping and has built her own Sim city which she is very proud of. She hopes to finally learn to ride a bicycle by the end of residency.

Zandra Ho, MD - Class of 2027

Email: Zandra.Ho@trinity-health.org

Zandra was born in Phoenix and moved to the UK before she turned one. After three years in Dublin and three in London, she made her way to California. She grew up bouncing back and forth between California and Massachusetts and is excited to explore the Midwest now!

She spent two gap years conducting computational cancer research at the Broad Institute, which inspired her to continue using computational methods to investigate health outcomes among vulnerable populations as she transitioned to medical school at Brown.

During her clinical years, she liked pretty much everything. She ultimately settled on OB/GYN because of the continuity and the variety—the opportunity to be in the OR as well as clinic, to manage physiology and pathology, to tackle prevention as well as manage terminal illness, to take care of patients across the lifespan, and to be in a field where advocacy is so crucial. She is excited to train in such a warm and supportive environment!

In her free time, she enjoys watching Netflix, biking, and has recently started playing pickleball.
