Project SUCCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Community Efforts to Strengthen Students) reduces factors that put students at risk for substance abuse. Highly trained counselors work in local schools to provide substance use prevention and early intervention services.
Students in participating schools receive comprehensive alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention education. We provide individual assessments and group counseling to at-risk students.

Project SUCCESS is available in Chelsea and Manchester middle and high schools. As a voluntary program, students are welcome to self-refer to our counselors. Peers, parents and faculty may also refer students. All referrals are confidential. Counselors may refer patients to community-based resources as appropriate.
In September 2021, Chelsea Hospital received a Mental Health Awareness and Training grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This federally funded grant supports mental health training for more than 2,500 members of our community.
Efforts involve training community members and first responders on assessing individuals with mental concerns. We will implement research-based methods that include questionnaires and age-appropriate mental health first aid.
