Welcome to the Trinity Health Oakland Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Website. The Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital initially received approval from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in 1998. The program was accredited by the AOA until the implementation of the ACGME Single Accreditation System (SAS). The Trinity Health Oakland Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program maintains ACGME Continued Accreditation status; the program is approved for 16 positions, accepting four residents per year.

Trinity Health Oakland is a 497-bed community hospital with a rich tradition of academic medicine. The hospital is located in the metro Detroit area in the city of Pontiac. Trinity Health Oakland is a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and has Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology on campus, allowing the Ob/Gyn residents to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience during their four years of training.

The hospital is a part of the Trinity/Catholic Health East network and is dedicated to keeping pace with the advances in medicine. Over the past ten years, the hospital has invested in significant updates as well as new construction. This includes the development of the updated Surgical Pavilion, with Davinci Robots (and a structured robotics education series) and the recently opened South Patient Tower, which includes private rooms with state-of-the-art technology and a Simulation Center. These resources, along with our dedicated faculty and staff, enable us to combine advanced technology with compassionate care to create a unique healing environment. This provides residents with the opportunity to become exceptional physicians and surgeons, prepared for today, and equipped for the changes of tomorrow.

Program Mission Statement

The Trinity Health Oakland Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program will provide an academic environment that focuses on the needs of the community we serve. We will provide families with trusted, evidence-based care delivered by empathetic, lifelong learners who will look beyond the clinical diagnosis and seek to make community connections to address the social determinants that can impact the health of individuals and community we serve. Our mission is in alignment with the Trinity Health Mission to serve as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within our community.

Our main focus is to care for our community by providing compassionate, evidence-based, high quality care that is safe and innovative, with a commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable, honoring the dignity of every person and improve community health by identifying and alleviating disparities and barriers to care. At the end of training, our residents will be resilient, successful OB GYN physicians.

Program Aims

The Program has the following five aims:

1. The program will develop competent physician scholars who are prepared professionally, academically, and personally to care for diverse communities of women and families.
2. The program will cultivate the seeds of intellectual curiosity and compassion to stimulate and maintain scholarly endeavors and advocacy for the underserved throughout the entirety of its graduates' careers.
3. The program will provide an academic environment that allows each resident to develop habits that will become lifelong tools to foster critical self-evaluation of their practice that allows for adjustments based on the analysis of timely and historical scientific literature to ensure delivery of appropriate and up-to-date care for women and communities.
4. The residents will develop the skills that will allow them to recognize limitations faced by patients and to facilitate connections to community resources. Furthermore, the residents will develop an appreciation for the role of their Public Health colleagues in addressing needs of individuals and impacting wellness in the community.
5. The program will foster the development of each resident as an expert in women’s health. The resident will transition from learner to instructor as they acquire the skills to disseminate their acquired knowledge in a professional and collaborative manner to appropriate audiences including other learners, colleagues, patients, legislators and community members.
