Breastfeeding Support at Trinity Health Michigan: Why Choose Us?

When you choose one of our hospitals for your labor and delivery, you also receive compassionate breastfeeding support. Highlights of our care include:

  • One-on-one help: Our team includes certified lactation consultants and registered nurses specially trained in breastfeeding support. These team members help you overcome challenges and answer your questions. We adhere to worldwide breastfeeding standards that help you and your baby thrive.
  • Baby-Friendly designation: Several of our hospitals have earned the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative accreditation. Hospitals with this designation must meet strict criteria from the World Health Organization (WHO) for breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding. Only a select number of hospitals in Michigan have achieved this rigorous standard.
  • Compassion and understanding: We encourage breastfeeding, but health or personal factors sometimes mean it’s not possible. Our team respects your needs and helps you bond with and feed your baby, no matter what method you choose.

Breastfeeding Support We Provide

Our team members are available to you before, during and after your hospital stay, so you receive breastfeeding support when you need it. You get the information and encouragement you need for a successful breastfeeding experience.

Our comprehensive breastfeeding support services include:

  • Bedside support: Once your baby is here, our on-staff lactation consultants and nurses are available to answer questions and address challenges. We also help you get started with proven bonding techniques, like skin-to-skin contact.
  • Breastfeeding classes: We offer virtual classes before pregnancy that help you prepare for breastfeeding. These classes equip you with information, so you feel more confident about feeding your baby. breastfeeding-related classes and events listing.
  • Resources at home: When you leave the hospital, we provide you with information about local breastfeeding resources. You can also contact your Trinity Health Michigan provider or lactation consultation if questions arise.
