ANN ARBOR, Mich. (June 22, 2020) – Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has promoted Alonzo Lewis to the role of president of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston hospitals, effective immediately.

"Alonzo is a trusted leader who has taken on significant initiatives for St. Joe's with remarkable results," said Rob Casalou, president and CEO of Trinity Health Michigan and Southeast Regions.  "Since joining our organization four years ago, he has led St. Joe's with a thoughtful, analytical approach to tackling tough issues, building strong teams and designing effective service line strategies while passionately supporting our healing mission.  As we continue to reinstate programs and services following the COVID-19 pandemic, I feel fortunate to have such an experienced and capable leader at the helm."

With his promotion to president, Lewis will be evaluating the chief operating officer position within the operations structure.  St. Joseph Mercy Livingston President John O'Malley will report to Lewis for hospital operations at St. Joe's Livingston.

Previously, Lewis was chief operating officer of the hospital.  Before joining St. Joe's as senior vice president of operations in 2016, Lewis was vice president of Women and Children's Services and Business Development at Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak.  He was also an administrator with The Henry Ford Medical Group and the managing director of the Health Care practice at Root, Inc. in Sylvania, Ohio.

Lewis has deep roots and extensive knowledge of health care organizations.  He began his career in 1993 as an administrative fellow at Trinity Health and was the director of Senior Services at Mercy Hospital in Detroit.  He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology and his Master of Health Service Administration from the University of Michigan.

As a longtime Ann Arbor area resident for more than 20 years, Lewis is involved in numerous community organizations including serving as a board member of the Washtenaw Health Plan, Glacier Hills Senior Living Community, and Hope Clinic.
