Port Huron, MI…St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) is pleased to announce that its Mercy Orthopedics and Joint Center received an Institutes of Quality (IOQ) rating by Aetna. IOQ ratings are given to facilities that have high volumes of producing clear clinical results in their area of specialty.
"Facilities that meet Aetna's standards are those that performed at least 200 knee replacement surgeries and 100 hip replacement surgeries within a 12 month calendar," explains Fran Parrish, RN, Director of Quality, Patient Safety and Regulatory at St. Joseph Mercy. "These facilities also offer access to physicians with significant experience in orthopedic care and meet measures of clinical performance while providing access and efficiency for orthopedic care.
"St. Joseph Mercy was recognized for providing evidence-based, recognized standards for clinical outcomes and process of care," continues Parrish. "Aetna also recognized the Mercy Orthopedic and Joint Center for offering a high value on patient care and safety, in addition to providing ongoing supports for patients."
The IOQ rating also shows SJMPH has demonstrated efficiencies in providing care based on overall cost of care, readmission rates and the comprehensiveness of the program.
"These types of ratings allow patients to make informed decisions when it comes to making health care choices," comments Rebekah Smith, RN, President and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy. "In addition other recent safety ratings and awards, this Institutes of Quality rating by Aetna shows our commitment to providing positive patient outcomes and patient safety across all our service lines."
The IOQ rating was announced just after St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron received recognition from three other nationally renowned organizations honoring its quality patient care and safety.
In September 2013, Consumer Reports magazine awarded St. Joseph Mercy with an “Above Average” rating for surgical services, the highest rating in the community. This rating reflects the percentage of Medicare patients from 2009 to 2011 who received outstanding post-surgical care.
And, last month, The Joint Commission honored the hospital with its Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® award highlighting St. Joseph Mercy Hospital’s ability to attain and sustain excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. SJMPH also received an “A” grade in the “Hospital Safety Score”, Fall 2013 update. This national LeapFrog Group score rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.
