Community Education Event Featuring Sleep Disorders Planned
ST. JOSEPH MERCY HOSTS COMMUNITY EDUCATION EVENT FEATURING SLEEP DISORDERS
Port Huron, MI...Restful sleep in a busy world is a goal worth attaining. Americans spend one-third of their lives sleeping; yet every year, millions experience fatigue, depression, lack of concentration and productivity due to sleep disorders. Such symptoms can affect job performance, social relationships and overall quality of life, yet many people do not seek professional help.
During March, national focus is placed on these issues during National Sleep Awareness Week held early in the month. The practice of sleep disorders medicine has grown significantly in size and importance in recent years due to the recognition of the incidence of sleep disorders and their impact on overall health. Lack of quality sleep creates fatigue, but more importantly, sleep disorders left untreated may increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack or stroke.
To help area residents better understand the signs, symptoms and treatment options available, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital will host a special program, titled, "Tired of Being Tired: Treatment of Sleep Disorders". Join St. Joseph Mercy and Syed Ali, MD, of St. Clair Pulmonary & Critical Care, PC, as he offers an overview of common sleep disorders; including apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and restless legs syndrome.
This special presentation will be held Tuesday, March 26, from 5 to 6 p.m., at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, 2601 Electric Avenue, Port Huron, MI. This FREE event includes refreshments. To make a reservation to attend, please call 1-888-637-2963.
