BENEFIT FROM LITTLE BLACK DRESS EVENT
Port Huron, MI...The Fifth Annual Betty Kearns Little Black Dress event, held in early March 2011 during CelticFest, boasted another sell-out crowd and terrific success in raising breast cancer awareness. St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron is pleased to accept a gift of $9,512 from the event to benefit Mercy Regional Cancer Center (MRCC) Breast Cancer patients.
The 2011 contribution was presented in the Mercy Cancer Resource Center. Seated next to Carolyn Bonacci, daughter of Betty Kearns, is St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron President & CEO Peter Karadjoff, FACHE, who holds a memorial portrait of Betty Kearns. Also pictured are other representatives of the Kearns family and St. Joseph Mercy, include (from left): Maureen MacCallum, Jackie MacKensen and Brenda Miller, RN, Oncology Nurse Navigator.
The MRCC used its 2010 contribution to develop the Mercy Cancer Resource Center in memorial of Betty Kearns. This beautifully appointed and spacious area offers cancer patients access to free wigs, literature and health and beauty information. The center is also utilized each month to host the Look Good...Feel Better sessions sponsored by the American Cancer Society. In addition to their financial contribution, the Kearns family also donated a number of stylish wigs to the resource center for distribution to cancer patients this year.
