SJMPH Announces 2010 Associate of the Year 11/03/2010 Port Huron, MI…Nominated for going the extra mile in the care of his patients, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron is pleased to announce that David Clarkson, RN, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has been named the 2010 Associate of the Year. Clarkson, of Fort Gratiot Township, has been a St. Joseph Mercy employee since 2002.
The St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron Associate of the Year program is an employee recognition program that is held each year in September, during Mercy Week, an annual celebration of the heritage of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
During the celebration 11 Associates, who have all been designated as an Associate of the Month, are considered for the annual award by all hospital staff, with the winner announced during a tea held in his/her honor.
Clarkson was very humbled to win the award, and was pleased to have been chosen by his peers. “I am very passionate about patient care, and St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron values are exactly what I am about,” commented David Clarkson about the award. “I want to reach out to the poor and underserved, and strive for respect, excellence, and social justice. My job in the ICU can be stressful. In challenging times, I often turn to spirituality and prayer.”
Clarkson was nominated for the individualized attention he gives to each patient, and to the patient’s family members. “David makes sure that all family members get to visit their ailing relative, and he even allowed music to be played, which he sang along to. This comforted everyone in the room,” commented Clarkson’s nominator. “He is also a real team player and is always striving for excellence on the unit.”
