Physicians Discuss Weight-Loss Options—from Lifestyle Changes to Bariatric Surgery
Pontiac, Mich. - St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) will offer a free, community educational seminar on options for people who wish to optimally manage their weight and health-related issues at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at the hospital's Franco Communications Center, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac.
During the seminar, attendees will:
Learn about the serious medical implications of being overweight
Learn how a physician led lifestyle-based program restores quality of life
Learn about minimally invasive surgical options for weight loss.
Speakers are SJMO physicians Tom Rifai, MD, and Jacob Roberts, DO. Dr. Rifai is Medical Director of SJMO's Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management Program. He received his MD degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the WSU School of Medicine. Previously he served as Associate Medical Director for The Pritikin Longevity Center in Florida. He is board certified by the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Roberts is on the SJMO medical staff as a general and minimally invasive bariatric surgeon. He performs surgeries at SJMO and at St. Mary Mercy Livonia. Dr. Roberts received his medical degree at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and was chief resident at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Oakland Center in Madison Heights, Mich. He completed his fellowship training at the Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill. Dr. Roberts also is board certified in General Surgery.
