Area EMS visit New Emergency Center at St. Mary Mercy
Area emergency responders, including the Livonia Fire Department, have been touring the new Emergency Center at St. Mary Mercy Hospital before it is scheduled to open to patients on November 14
“Emergency responders are integral to the emergency patient care at the hospital,” said Karen Bostick, Director, Emergency Center. “Orienting them to the new Emergency Center ensures a smooth transition when we open.”
Located in the new addition of the south wing, the new Emergency Center has more than 50 clinical rooms that include private treatment rooms and an expanded Senior ER. The new Emergency Center features include a “racetrack” layout where private patient rooms surround the clinical work area. Another feature of the Emergency Center: a break room for the emergency responders with a TV and computer access.
Tom Kiurski, Training Coordinator, Livonia Fire Department was among the responders who went on the tour Tuesday, Oct. 9. “The new Emergency Department is going to be fantastic for our folks … they can get in and work their way around a little bit more efficiently,” he said after the tour. “It’s going to be a lot better for the patients; a lot of more privacy in the rooms and a lot more comforts in there.”
