Saint Joseph Mercy Health System strongly supports a patient's right to receive or be accompanied by visitors, recognizing the contribution that visits from family and friends make to the patient's recovery. All visitors chosen by the patient, or a representative for the patient, are granted full and equal visitation rights consistent with the patient's wishes. Please keep in mind the following:
- Patients dictate who they'd like as visitors unless the visitor poses a risk of infection to the patient, poses a threat of physical harm or does not abide by department-specific rules.
- Children under the age of 16 may visit patients when supervised by an adult visitor.
- Family members and visitors who are disruptive to patients or others may be asked by staff to leave.
- Visiting hours are flexible and determined by the needs of the patient and their wishes. Specialty areas (such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or other Critical Care units) may have established visiting hours and guidelines.
