You may need more care after you are discharged from the hospital. Some patients
need home care services, equipment or a short stay in a rehabilitation unit
or extended care facility. Case nurses and social workers are available to talk
with you about discharge needs, as well as other concerns, and to assist with
your discharge plan. The phone number for the Social Work and Case Management
Department is 734-712-2671.
Discharge Instructions
Once you are discharged, normal checkout time is 11 a.m.
You must have someone to drive you home or accompany you in a taxi.
Before leaving your hospital room, please be sure that you have the following:
- Written discharge instructions and any prescriptions
- Personal belongings
- Any necessary supplies
- Any flowers or gifts sent to you
To make a payment before leaving the hospital, please call 734-712-3650 to
speak with a patient financial counselor. Counselors will take the payment over
the phone or make arrangements to meet you. An estimate of your bill may be
requested prior to your discharge. Patient balances may be paid by cash, personal
check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express).
Before you leave the hospital, your doctor and nurse will give you instructions
about your prescriptions (if any), special exercises, care of the area of your
operation, normal healing, dietary and fluid changes, pain management and when
to call a doctor.
Discharge Process
Have your driver park in the visitor lot near the hospital entrance. If necessary,
ask your driver to come to your room to help carry luggage, flowers or other
items to be taken home. After you check out of your room and go to the main
lobby, your driver may pick you up at the main entrance. Your driver should remain with the car
because this is a fire lane and should not be blocked due to fire safety regulations.
Vehicles left unattended in fire lanes are subject to ticketing.
Reception Services
Our canopy attendant is happy to assist you in loading your belongings, helping
you into the vehicle and providing a wheelchair if needed. Canopy attendants
can assist you with directions or other needs.
