Article
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – (March 8, 2013) – Three hospitals of the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System—St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and St. Mary Mercy Livonia—have been recognized by Healthgrades for overall excellence as well as excellence in specialties including critical care, gastrointestinal care, joint replacement, neurology and neuroscience, orthopedic surgery, pulmonary care, stroke care and women’s health.

The rankings are determined by Healthgrades by objectively measuring risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates across common inpatient conditions and procedures from data collected between 2009 and 2011 from Medicare patients.

“Receiving these clinical awards across several of our hospitals shows our commitment to quality and safety,” said Garry C. Faja, Regional President and CEO, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. “Most importantly, it is our patients who benefit from our award-winning programs.“

For the third year in a row, St. Mary Mercy Livonia was recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, representing the top one percent in the nation, for consistently providing the highest clinical quality and best patient outcomes. To be considered, hospitals must have received Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for at least eight consecutive years.

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and St. Joseph Mercy Oakland were both one of 262 hospitals nationally that received a Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for performing in the top five percent nationally in overall clinical excellence and comprehensive high quality care. This was the third year in a row that St. Joseph Mercy Oakland received this award.

In addition, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor received three specialty excellence awards including Neurosciences Excellence for superior outcomes in stroke and neurosurgery; Neurosurgery Excellence for superior outcomes in surgeries and procedures to treat diseases and conditions of the nervous system, and Stroke Care Excellence for superior outcomes in the care and treatment of stroke.

For the third year in a row, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland was recognized in the top five percent in the nation in both Pulmonary Care Excellence and Women’s Health Excellence. In addition, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland was recognized for both Joint Replacement and Orthopedic Surgery Excellence for the fourth year in a row as well as Critical Care Excellence and Gastrointestinal Care Excellence.
