Saint Joseph Mercy Health System wins three Aster Awards for its outstanding and innovative marketing efforts

Of nearly 3,000 entries, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has been awarded two gold and one bronze awards for its marketing and communications efforts.

The Aster Awards, hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today Magazine and Creative Images, Inc., is one of the largest national competitions of its kind. This elite program today recognized outstanding healthcare professionals for excellence in their advertising and marketing efforts for the 2011 calendar year.

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor earned a gold award (top 5 percent in the nation) for its medical reality television show: Discover Remarkable: At the Heart of Medicine, The Baby Doctor episode; Saint Joseph Mercy Health System earned a bronze award (top 16 percent in the nation) for its internal employee newsletter, On the Mark; and St. Mary Mercy Livonia won a gold award for its full marketing campaign to promote the Michigan Bariatric Institute, including a poster/flyer, :60 radio spot/patient testimonial and :30 and :60 television commercials.

Award entries came from across the United States as well as Canada and South America. Participant’s entries competed against similar-sized organizations in their category.

“We are honored to have earned three coveted Aster Awards. These awards underscore the leading-edge care our hospitals provide, and our ability as communicators to relay that message to the communities we serve,” comments Michele Szczypka, regional chief marketing officer, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Awards were issued for entries that received top marks from judges placing them in the top 16 percent of the nation for advertising excellence. Judging criteria included creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality and overall appeal.

“Although our nation has been challenged economically, the talent of health care marketing professionals seems to be at an all time high. The 2012 Aster Awards program contained some of the best advertising arguably in the world. The judge’s expectations were again surpassed,” said Melinda Lucas, Aster Awards program coordinator.

All winners are posted on the Aster Awards website (www.AsterAwards.com), as well as published in Marketing Healthcare Today, a national health care marketing magazine.

Earlier this year, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System earned international MarCom Awards for Discover Remarkable: At the Heart of Medicine, the Robotic Heart Surgery episode in the following categories: Video/Film/Medical (platinum), TV/Campaign (platinum), Video/Film/Marketing a Product or Service (gold), TV/Program (honorable mention); and a Cardiovascular Advertising Award for the same show. St. Mary Mercy Livonia earned a merit award for its newsletter, In Touch, by the Healthcare Advertising Awards.
