Start Date

St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Helps Experienced Drivers Refine Their Driving Skills

Ann Arbor, Mich. - May 26, 2010 - St. Joseph Mercy Hospital of Ann Arbor is hosting a workshop for adult drivers who may be experiencing chronic conditions that make driving more challenging. The workshop consists of two sessions on Thursday June 2, and Friday June 3 from 9 a.m. - Noon, on the second floor of the Ellen Thompson Women's Health Center. There is also an optional hands-on driving experience on Saturday, June 4.

This AAA-endorsed program often provides discounts from Michigan insurance companies for drivers who complete the Mature Driver program.

The Mature Driver's Workshop is designed for drivers who may be experiencing conditions such as night glare, early cataracts, neck and joint stiffness. The Mature Driver's Workshop will provide a set of strategies for dealing with these, and other conditions that can make driving more difficult as we age.

This three-day program includes snacks and the total cost is $10. The first two days covers topics such as effects of aging, physical limitations, dealing with today's road conditions, current traffic laws, break reaction time, depth perception, visual acuity, and glare recovery for night driving. The optional third session takes place with a certified instructor who will check the fit of your seats, pedals, and mirrors.
